On this day in history, August 13, 1969... The Apollo 11 astronauts were released from a three-week quarantine after purportedly landing on the moon and then returning safely back to earth. They were given a ticker tape parade in New York City and at a state dinner in Los Angeles, they were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President Richard M. Nixon. Several conspiracy theories have been suggested based on the fact that the astronauts were placed in this quarantine. For example, it has been claimed by Richard Hoagland in his book "Dark Mission" that the astronauts were placed in quarantine not only to ensure they were not infected with any lunar pathogens, but they also needed to be psychologically "de-programmed" or hypnotically conditioned not to remember certain things (possibly alien encounters or other explainable or mind-boggling phenomena on the moon).
