The agreements signed at Lateran Palace, known as the Lateran Treaty, were ratified which created the state of the Vatican City and guaranteed full and independent sovereignty to the Holy See. The treaty had also settled the Roman Question, a dispute regarding the temporal power of the popes as rulers of a civil territory in the context of the Italian Reunification.
