Canada, Mexico, and the United States concluded their negotiations for their North American trilateral trade bloc, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994. While some have claimed that NAFTA has been beneficial to the economies for the countries in North America, NAFTA has been criticized by others, claiming it to be a move towards a "North American Union," which would subsequently be a further step closer towards a global totalitarian new world order.
