The Big Ear radio telescope, operated by Ohio State University as part of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence project (SETI), received an anomalous narrowband radio signal that seemed to originate from the constellation Sagittarius, and appeared to have the characteristics expected for extraterrestrial origin. The anomaly wasn't discovered until a few days later by astronomer Jerry R. Ehman, who wrote the comment "Wow!" on the side of the computer printout.
