On this day in history, September 6, 1997... The funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, was held London, with well over a million people watching from the streets, and another estimated 2.5 billion people watching on television. Princess Diana died five days earlier, on August 31, 1997, as a result of injuries she sustained in a car accident in Paris. Initially blamed on the driver being drunk, an inquest later put blame on the paparazzi for the crash. Later conspiracy theories suggested that the crash had been planned and that Diana was actually murdered because of her various political and ideological positions. On April 7, 2008, a jury decided that the case's verdict was that of an "unlawful killing."
